Female journalists have been urged to effectively use their pens as a bridge to connect the challenges faced by citizens with the government, in order to help address various issues affecting society.

The call was made today in Dar es Salaam by the Minister for Information, Communications and Information Technology, Angellah Kairuki, while opening the first-ever “Malikia wa Habari” symposium.

“We recognize that the contribution of female journalists is significant in addressing social and economic challenges affecting society, especially women,” she said.

At the same time, Minister Kairuki emphasized the importance of female journalists effectively managing the groups and associations they establish so that they can deliver positive outcomes for both members and the wider community.

“There are many opportunities in the media and communications sector that women should take advantage of, and the government is ready to work with you to ensure you access them,” she added.

She also stressed the importance of unity among all accredited female journalists to facilitate their official recognition by the government.

Conference coordinator Penina Malundo said the main objective of the conference is to bring together female journalists to discuss the challenges they face and to amplify their collective voice.

Another objective, she added, is to foster collaboration in social activities so that each participant can achieve their goals and realize their dreams.

Earlier during a panel discussion, Mwananchi newspaper Political Editor Lilian Timbuka emphasized the importance of cultivating a habit of continuously seeking new knowledge rather than waiting for formal training.

Clouds Media Group Editor-in-Chief Joyce Shebe stressed the importance of equipping women with various skills to deal with negative information circulating on social media.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Leo Newspaper News Editor Mary Geofrey said the conference provided an opportunity for participants to discuss their challenges and share experiences.
