The presence of a cyclone named 'CHIDO' has been recorded and reported over the Northern Indian Ocean, north of Madagascar.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) today issued an advisory to the public regarding the presence of this cyclone.
TMA stated that the cyclone is expected to head toward northern Mozambique.
"In the next four days [December 13 to 16, 2024]," the statement outlined and elaborated further:
"Currently, the cyclone does not pose a direct threat to our country.
"However, due to the proximity of the areas where Cyclone 'CHIDO' is expected to pass [Northern Mozambique] and southern parts of our country,"
There is a slight likelihood of brief episodes of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and large sea waves.
"This is particularly expected in areas like Mtwara and its surroundings, especially between December 14 and 16, 2024," the statement noted.
The advisory further urged, "Sea users and the general public are advised to continue monitoring and adhering to weather updates from TMA, as well as seeking advice and guidance from relevant sectoral experts."
TMA assured that it will continue monitoring the cyclone's progression and its impact on local weather systems, and will provide updates as necessary.
